The Greater New Paltz/Gunks Art community organizes art openings, gallery receptions and art events on an ongoing basis in various locations around the town. With a rich history of independence going back over 330 years, New Paltz and its surrounding communities provide visitors with a wide variety of entertainment options: historic sites, eclectic art spaces, music venues, restaurants, shopping, local produce and wineries, as well as hiking, biking, climbing, and cross-country skiing, depending on the season. The State University of New York at New Paltz keeps the energy high in the community yearround. And local artists' galleries and studios are open weekends and by appointment for the viewing pleasure of local and out-of-town art audiences.
